COVID-19 Update from the President
It is with a heavy heart that I have to announce that as of today, March 20, 2020, ASPECC will be closed for the foreseeable future.
We are in a scary time right now.
At the time of writing, 177 countries are affected with over 234,000 people infected. There has been a terrible loss of life in this pandemic, and our hearts go out to every individual around the world who is facing and have faced loss.
Alberta Sex Positive Education and Community Centre has a culture of raising the bar that we instill in our volunteers and the Board of Directors. We do what we can to protect everyone in the space. While oxivir is an amazing cleaner, it is not enough to flatten the curve. COVID-19 is something that is beyond what we have prepared for.
This is far beyond what we all have prepared for.
We believe that community is more important than ever. We are still going to be here for you.
All of our social events and classes have moved online through Zoom and links will be posted in the event descriptions so you can join us. There will also be regularly scheduled “drop-in” hangout events where people can log in and socialize.
We know everyone is going to be feeling the economic pressures of this catastrophe and we have been transparent about how we are barely able to pay our bills and rent each month while our events have been running. I don’t know what the future holds for our location.
We will be keeping you updated with what our future looks like as we figure it out. Should keeping our physical space be outside of our ability when this all blows over, ASPECC as an organization will still be here, still offering classes, and still there for you. We will persevere and we will rise from this together as a stronger, more cohesive community.
Be kind to each other. Reach out to your loved ones during this time and let them know you care. If you need community care, please join us on Discord or for one of our Zoom events. We are here for you just as you all have been here for us.
All my love,
Nix Peterson, President
