KeymasterWhat are some of the common challenges people might face when trying to access Contraceptives? What is something that you wish you had known about contraceptives when you were first sexually active?

ParticipantI haven’t really had any personal experience with trying to get contraceptives, so I don’t have much I can say on that. But as for the challenges people can face when trying to get contraceptives there are things like where a person lives. Depending on where they live there may be very few places to go to get contraceptives. The cost can also be a factor, depending on where they live and what form of contraceptive they want to use, it may be difficult to find one that is low cost. Some people may also experience pretty bad side effects from certain contraceptives, which can cause them to feel uncomfortable using them.

ParticipantSome common challenges people may face to accessing contraceptives today could include, but are not limited to, – not knowing where to go to access contraception
– being to shy to ask for or purchase
– no family doctor to discuss possible options & side effects with
– having no one to discuss what options may be best for individuals
– lack of income to pay for contraceptionI wish the information and possible side effects of different contraception choices was more available to me as a young person becoming sexually active. It is very difficult for a young person to make long term decisions that may affect their future choices. For example, I wish it was explained in more detail that the depo shot wasn’t as accurate as I expected, but also, could hinder pregnancy later in life when I felt ready to have children.
