During the video, while doing the questions for the SARS, Were there questions that made you uncomfortable? How did you cope with being uncomfortable?

There weren’t really any questions in this video that made me uncomfortable. But when I encounter questions that challenge my biases and make me uncomfortable, both ones about sex and about other topics, I do my best to take a step back and examine why. I do my best both to think about why I hold the viewpoint I do, and why someone may hold a viewpoint that differs from mine.

While going over the questions in SARS, I didn’t find that any of them made me uncomfortable, but rather I didn’t really know about, or had limited experience. I would require further information to make a more informed decision or opinion.
Growing up in a smaller, fairly close minded community, I have regularly seeked “outside information” on many topics I found to be initially uncomfortable.

I love that you both explored how you DO deal with that type of discomfort. I try, myself, to remember that when I feel defensive, this is often a bias poking me. As a white person I have had to really work on being able, for example, to hear about colonial leanings I myself have, in order to reflect and relearn-but I can’t do that work when I am mired in defensiveness. I try to do the same in my sex education work-to recognize that defensiveness, or shame, is an indication of a residing bias that I have not explored.

There wasn’t any questions on the SARS that made me uncomfortable- probably due to being with ASPECC for a while before coming into this course.

When I am uncomfortable, I remind myself that not everyone thinks like me, and I shouldn’t restrict others to my way of thinking.
