From the President: AGM Announcement
Dear Members, volunteers, and guests:
It is that time of year again! Our Annual General Meeting is coming up quite quickly, and I would like to take this opportunity to invite you to attend! For the safety of our members, volunteers, and Board of Directors, we will be hosting this online on September 20, 2020, at 1:00 pm and it is open to the general public. The link to attend will be released closer to the date.
Over the course of this pandemic, we have received an unparalleled amount of support from our community and membership base. All the volunteers who help run the Alberta Sex Positive Education and Community Centre are wholly astounded at all of you! Thank you from the bottom of all of our hearts. The support we have received thus far has allowed us to maintain the existing space throughout these unprecedented times, and ongoing support will be needed to continue providing shame-free sex education and a place for community to meet once we are back up and running at full capacity again. If this situation continues, we will have to reach out for more support to maintain our existing space.
Your outpouring of love and support helped to bolster our spirits during these trying times, and I cannot thank you all enough for this.
So, what comes next?
With the AGM comes the election for the 2020-2021 Board of Directors. If you are a member in good standing (non-expired friendship or Friends with Benefits card) and/or a current Board Member, you have the privilege of voting for who sits on the Board of Directors for the next year. If you wish to vote by proxy, please inform Nix Peterson at president@aspecc.ca as soon as possible.
With the community stepping up, we would love to see those who wish to continue to make an impact apply to be on the board! Some of the positions available include:
- President
- CEO
- Treasurer
- Volunteer Coordinator
- Education Coordinator
- Youth Coordinator (Must be 24 or younger)
- General Board Members
What does being on the Board of Directors mean? Simply, you are a member of the team that makes up the ethics of the organization. We ask that you put in a minimum of 5 board hours of work in a month as a general board member, and either take on at least one event as a host or co-host per month or chair one of the volunteer committees, and respond to emails in a timely manner. We can also work closely with you to accommodate any and all restrictions that make the above difficult. The Board of Directors meet once per month and utilize teleconference to ensure our members can attend.
The applications for being on the Board of Directors are due no later than September 17, 2020, at 12:00 pm. Any applications received after this date will not be considered as voting is to begin September 18, 2020, for those who are unable to attend the online meeting.
If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me at president@aspecc.ca. I look forward to hearing from you.
Be safe in these uncertain times.
Kind regards,
Nix Peterson
President
